From the day she arrives at quiet Mica High in a burst of color and sound, hallways hum “Stargirl.” She captures Leo Borlock’s heart with one smile. She sparks a school-spirit revolution with one cheer. The students of Mica High are enchanted. Until they are not. Leo urges her to become the very thing that can destroy her – normal.
“Why fit in when you’re born to stand out?”
I adore this book so much. Stargirl is truly the representation of who we were, before the world told us who we should be. People hated different. But Stargirl didn’t care. Because who are we in this world but a dust that will soon be washed away in the forgotten abyss. They are they and we can never be like them. If we try to become like them, we will lose the essence of who we truly are.
I’ve conformed with her, about who she was, what she did and how she’s always living her life without caring that she may be branded as different. I feel like I’ve become her. Her traits echoed some of mine. And I’ve found myself wanting to live life as a wanted to live. And be a better person than I am today and stop trying to be like everyone else.
Jerry Spinelli is an amazing author. I’m enthralled by his style of writing.
“Star people are rare.”
Stargirl taught me that life is too short to be like everyone else. Do what makes you happy. Stop existing and start living.
“You’ll know her more by your questions than by her answers. Keep looking at her long enough. One day you might see someone you know.”
Yes and we might see ourselves.
